Edinburgh Zoo is a zoological park in Edinburgh, Scotland. The zoo is located within the Corstorphine Hill area of the city and is home to over 1,000 animals of over 140 species. It was originally opened in 1913 and has since become one of the UK's most visited tourist attractions. Some of the more popular animals include penguins, pandas, koalas, tigers, lions, monkeys, meerkats and lemurs.
The zoo also offers a range of educational activities such as talks and animal enrichment sessions where visitors can explore different habitats and find out more about the animals that inhabit them. There are also special events throughout the year including interactive workshops and family fun days. The zoo is open all year round with different opening times depending on the season; it usually opens from 10am to 4pm (or 5pm during summer).
As well as being a place for fun and education for visitors, Edinburgh Zoo works hard to support local conservation projects and international wildlife research programmes designed to help protect endangered species around the world. It also has a large conservation centre where some endangered species are bred in captivity so they can be released back into their natural habitats when appropriate.
