  : Nifty old (really old, like Robert Louis Stevenson stayed there and wrote about it in Kidnapped, old) tavern right across from the ferry and just about smack below the train bridge. Room (#3) we had was tucked in a basement and not damp but plenty dark with a single window out to the rear. Tavern dinner was an unexpected treat with a hoisin duck pizza and local lamb skewer. Server was a delight with local insights (we always ask what "not to do" as to get a better feel of a place away from other tourists and she clued us in very well). She really made the experience a joy.When we asked what would be a good sweet to cap off the meal, she suggested and delivered. Not being familiar with this crazy dessert, Pavlova, with mango and white chocolate wafers, the presentation was a surprise. Perfect balance of tart, crunch, sweet and though the size was deceptive it was perfect for two. The méringue just melts on the tongue. All within a few feet of a cornerstone etched 1683.
  : A little odd needing to access our room past the kitchen service door and around the back. Parking lot not unpleasant but, a parking lot still. When I asked in the morning for some "real coffee" since the room had only instant, someone at the tavern bar told me there was nothing to be found in the area before 9am. Ventured out and brought back lattes and pastries from about a mile and a half. If we hadn't been on a schedule we would have stayed for breakfast once they opened.
